SarahBeth and Dottie for a wonderful education!!

Wow, we had a crowd (I counted 51) last Thursday.  Thanks to all who came out to the education.  A special THANK YOU to SarahBeth Reeves and Dotty Bellefleur for presenting the information on running and manning the safety boat.

This coming Thursday (Jan. 14) we will have education at the Dunedin Community Center in the Aberdeen room at 10 AM.  Attendance is optional for all sailors.  This room only holds 35 people max. and the larger room is not available.  If we have more than 35, the late comers will have to go to brunch or coffee! The community center is at 1920 Pinehurst Rd, Dunedin, FL 34698 and Phone:(727) 812-4530.

This is a basic sailing education for the purpose of understanding how to optimize your boat speed.  Chris Kelly and Paula Shur will be providing this education and have promised to keep it simple.

  1. Rigging and parts of sail
  2. Relationship of sails and wind
  3. Points of Sailing
  4. Wind Shifts and getting to the windward mark first
  5. Balance – Relationship of hulls and sails
  6. Apparent wind/true wind
  7. Retrieving your lost hat(man-overboard)
  8. If desired – team competition jeopardy

Thursday, Jan. 21, winter luncheon.

Thursday, Jan. 28, starting strategies, 10 AM.  We will have a large room for this education and hope that all sailors and members can attend.

We have not yet planned the education for February because we want to hear from you!!!  What do you want to know more about?  There will be something planned every Thursday morning in Feb.  Plan to continue spending Thursday mornings with the Windlasses!

Thanks to Chris Kelly (education), Cheryl, Barb, Dotty and others that have been busy planning for the Winter Series race days.

Captain Janet
